A Desert Oasis with Hometown Feel, 130 miles to Black Rock City!
Fallon is your first major stop after the very long drive across the big state of Nevada, whether you’re coming from Las Vegas via Highway 95, or from the east via Highway 50, aka The Loneliest Road in America. Many Burners every year travel through Fallon, while at the same time, more-and-more Fallon residents have made it to Burning Man over the years. Therefore some of the culture of Burning Man continues to rub off on the community here. As a result, Burners traveling from south and east have found Fallon to be a great place to stock up on major supplies before heading off to the Black Rock City, some 130 miles away.
The heart of Fallon centers around the crossroads of Highways 50 and 95. Many of the businesses listed below are centered at or nearby this junction, or they can be found eastwards further along Highway 50 (aka William Street or Reno Highway). If you are heading to Burning Man you will want to be on Highway 50 westwards. Fernley lies about 30 miles west of here, and then Black Rock City is another 100 miles north…
Fallon is a crossbreed of industries and increasingly a melting pot of cultures. Long a farming and ranching community with local and nearby tourist attractions, as well as a major Naval Air Station next-door, Fallon is growing and evolving as a small city proud with its traditions and rich in community, hospitality, and ingenuity.
As you pass and perhaps shop through Fallon, please remember to be respectful and considerate with the people and their properties. Burning Man is still kind of a new phenomenon to Fallon, so you may meet both some distance and some curiosity. It is important to show what Burning Man is really about. This especially goes with Leaving No Trace.
